"Follow the Wood Grain".....Our Story.
We're Kelly Wilson & Daniel Kelley owners of TalkWood2Me Woodworking & Reclaimed Living. Our passion is dirt, rust and reclaimed wood and our goal is to "reclaim & repurpose the character" from old rusty metal to old barn wood. Most people see things as old junk but we strive to breathe new life into the old character, rust, dirt and grime by following the wood grain and layers of patina left from years of life and let the end creations tell the stories. Give us a like on our Facebook pages (talkwood2me) & (Reclaimed Living Store), follow us on instagram and follow our blog to see what we've been up too lately. Thx DK & Kelly.
We just want to thank you for stopping by our new website. It's still in the early development stage so please have patience with us as we continually upgrade and tweak our setup and display to bring you a great experience.
3-30-17 News Update!
We have some very exciting news to share. During our trip over Spring Break to Waco, Texas to visit Magnolia Silos & Marketplace, we've decided on some new ventures and ideas for Reclaimed Living Store. We're going to open a rustic home decor booth at Nickorbob's Home Decor in Divernon, IL just south of Springfield at exit 82 on I55. We'll be setting up hopefully before Easter Weekend and look forward to getting to share our passion and talent out there to the masses. We got to thinking and thought it would be a great idea to figure out to blog/video blog our trips "Roadside Pickins" and share it with our fellow junkers so that will be in the works over the next month or two. We learned and discovered so much on this Waco trip that we can't process it all and that was a reason for wanting to share it. News and info on the new storefront, although we are super busy creating and building great pieces we want our clinets and fellow pickers to be able to access our stuff beyond just the craftshows. So we've moved the woodshop to our building in LeRoy, IL just 15 minutes East of Bloomington on Route 150. So we've been building out the space and setting up to have an open house sale April 7-9th and a Spring Pickers Days April 20-23rd. We're still working out the details and times so stay tuned. We're excited to take our craft to the next level and share it with everyone so stay tuned for more. We'll be opening in Mid April on a select days basis with a grand opening celebration this Spring with expanded hours. More to come so stay tuned.
The storefront is going to be located at 205 W. Pine St. Le Roy, IL 61752. We'll be carrying all of our recalimed wood, salvage, home decor and crafts and much more as we settle in. We're also entertaining the idea of having other crafting friends of ours display their goods as well. Stay tuned here and on Facebook for updates and info.
How We Got Started
Loving boyfriend to 1, great father to 4; identical twin boys Connor & TJ who are 12 and recently my "bonus kids" Brayden 7 and Landon 5. They've taught me everything that matters in life, how to laugh daily, the true meaning of happiness and to live life with the mindset of Carpe Diem. The Twins never let their struggle of autism slow them down or stop them from living life to the fullest. Brayden and Landon have taught me to enjoy the teachable moments and the continued effort to learn something new. My name Is Daniel and I love to build, craft and construct all kinds of things from wood. It's a driving passion that I've carried since I was a little boy.
I've always had a passion for building and crafting things from an early age. I grew up with my dad and family all in the construction trades. I grew up with three great passions; running heavy equipment, building/construction trades and all things hockey.
When I was around 5 or 6 years old I had a ton of large 1:16 scale ERTL tractors and heavy equipment toys. However the one thing I didn't have was a lowboy trailer to hitch to my nylint semi truck to haul my equipment from job site to job site in my backyard construction site. I talked my dad into helping me build a wood lowboy trailer complete with rolling wooden wheels and even a working hand crank wench. I had designed it up in my head and laid out the materials I dug out of the wood bin and had built most of the lowboy before my Dad had even come out to the garage to assist me. He helped me cut the final couple boards and showed me how to sand and shape it into the final working piece. In those 3-4 hours something was sparked in me that would turn into a fire 2 decades later.
When my twins were maybe a year or two old they had an ever mounting pile of toys and I decided with help my of Brother-in-law that we would design and build a wooden toy box using T&G car siding for Christmas. Over the holiday weekend we built, shaped, constructed and stained the toy box. Ten years later after much abuse from the boys maylay of toys being tossed in it, this box still looks like new. That followed a few years ago when my cousin sent me a picture of a John Deere Tractor Bunk Bed and said I should build the boys one, which should be noted TJ & Connor are big JD fans. I decided to go bigger and one step further and designed heavy equipment loft beds. A John Deere 329 Track Skid Steer and a JD 750 Bulldozer loft beds were constructed over the winter of 2012 in my garage. Over the course of around 100-120 man hours over the course of about 2 months these cool pieces were brought to life. The day my best friend and I moved these loft beds into the boys rooms they were jumping through the ceiling with excitement. They couldn't wait for bedtime so they could sleep in their new equipment themed beds. I'll admit my inner kid wanted to build one for myself too. Each loft had an area underneath set up to each of the boys' interests. TJ's Dozer loft had a desk installed complete with a reading and gaming nook. Connor's Skid Steer loft has a hot wheels parking lot shelf and a race track ramp complete with a launcher tower.
That's when the fire really began to burn for my passion to design and craft cool things from wood. I started making home goods for our home and to celebrate milestones in our life. From JD Initial Barn wood Clocks to Letter Monogram Family Year Established Signs. I've created sports, farming, family and hockey themed signs and plaques. Personalized name plate key and coat racks to display accent walls. So after posting pictures on FB like I always did, a couple friends of my wife's commented that I really should start making and selling this stuff. Those comments kept replaying in my head over that year and then a good friend asked me to make her a growth ruler for her 3 year old son. Then a friend and I were discussing fundraiser ideas for their local college club hockey team; ISU Redbirds. So I designed and built an entire line of items that were personalized to their team logo "Reggie Redbird" and the players. I then reached out to my old high school team asked them if they'd entertain the concept for their team as well and they took it on with open arms and pure excitement. That's when the spark collided with 8 month old friend's comments and the creation of Talkwood2me was designed to life from a hobby concept into a great hobby business. So there you have it my three passions coupled with my faith in God all tied back into one of my true callings.
2015 into 2016 was a tough road for me personally after loosing my family dog Libby in a sudden car accident and then going through a divorce shortly after. I decided to take a break from woodworking and my passions and focus on my boys and settling into my new life in finding my drive and self again. That road brought me through the toughest walk for me and forced me to develop the best version of myself, stronger, more focused, driven and passionate both spiritually and personally. It all started with forgiveness in the past and acceptance of my own faults truly owning them and building my foundations stronger. Through faith, patience and my own walk guided me down the path where I found Kelly, the true love of my life and my core happiness. Kelly has shown me what its like to truly live life to the fullest and has pushed me to new endless heights of passion and creativity. She has a great eye for design and a beautiful ability in crafting home decor and re purposed salvage. It's fueled a whole new level of drive to create custom woodworking and we're ready to raise the bar of expectations even higher and continue to push the limits. I can't wait to start to share with everyone our teamwork of creations and talent. Be sure to follow our blog updates for what we're currently designing and working, your own honey do projects may be our weekly highlights.
I recently constructed a new John Deere S670 Combine Bunk/Loft Bed for Brayden and Landon and its turning out to be the best custom designed bunk bed yet. Kelly and I pulled elements into the room to tie the whole "little farmers" theme together. We'll be updating progress pictures/blog soon as we wrap up the project. 90% of what we offer in products is something we started off building and designing for our home and as friends and family began to ask for those items we began to offer them to the public and have been blessed in the great response and we thank you for your support because this is our full time career and love waking up each day to create and dream the next design concept.
After the 2016 Fall Craft Show circuit we decided this is what we're meant to do and want to do fulltime. We decided to rename Talkwood2me and redevelop the business to Talkwood2me Woodworking & Reclaimed Living. We also decided during a winter craft show event it was time to move the shop out of our garage and into my large shop but with a bonus incentive. The Reclaimed Living of the name would be our storefront and talkwood2me woodworking would be the building and creation side of the business. We're big believers that everything happens for a reason and nothing is possible without God as your guide so we're letting him be navigator and following the path we feel is the right one to journey. So we'd like to extend an invitation to you and your friends to join our journey and our story. this Spring we'll be having a grand opening event in April or early May but will be open in March. Kelly & I couldn't be more excited as we continue to create new ideas, salvage curb side pickins and falling down barns and reclaim the character that has been lost for decades and bring others a piece of that through our new shop.
We build things from my heart and meaningful to myself and family. I build to a high quality of standards and won't send it out unless I'd put each piece in my own home. Most items are made from or with recycled or reclaimed materials worked into the piece. We'll only send pieces that meet my 110% approval and specs. If a piece isn't up to that standard I won't send it out until it's at that standard. If a piece doesn't meet your expectations please contact us and if we can't make you satisfied send it back to us and we'll give you a complete refund for the item and shipping once we have received the item back at our shop location.
I'll continually be posting new items as the ideas are crafted to life, so be sure to check back often for new listings. If there is an item(s) that you'd like commissioned or would like to see built let us know and we'll gladly work on crafting it to life. We build crafted items from hockey themed to farm themed to barn wood milestone items. Thx for stopping by our page, feel free to leave us a review or favorite our statement pieces that catch your creative touch.
